Providing counselling and support services for Queer and Trans communities, Sex Workers, and folks in non-traditional relationship networks.

HS Counselling and Support Services

About

My Approach

About

I approach counselling from a lens that is grounded in the continued practice of anti-racism, disability justice, queer theory, sex positivity, and that recognizes the systemic violence that has, and continues to, harm us and impact our experiences in the world, and inside ourselves. You are the expert in your experiences, and I view my role as a person in solidarity and support, as well as an accomplice in your journey.

Some therapeutic styles and approaches I integrate into my practice are:

  • Trauma-informed

  • Collaborative

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Person-Centered

  • Sex Positive & Sex Worker Affirming

  • Kink & BDSM Affirming

  • Family Systems

  • Humanistic

  • Expressive Arts

  • Somatic Approaches

  • CBT & DBT

The main niche of folks that I have had the honour of working with over the years have been queer and trans folks, sex workers, disabled folks, non-traditional relationship networks, kink and bdsm communities, BIPOC folks, folks navigating complex trauma, and those living at the intersections of many of these identities.

Policies and Fees

Many extended benefit plans will cover sessions by a Registered Social Worker; however, please check with your provider ahead of time. For some folks, fees that are not covered may be tax deductible as a medical expense. A receipt will be provided for you to submit for reimbursement.

I offer no-cost 20 minute consultations for folks who want to learn more or see if we are a good match.

Fees for 50 minute individual sessions: $135.00

Fees for 50 minute multi-person sessions: $160.00

A portion of my practice is sliding scale, with fees ranging from at $60.00-$125.00 for 50 minute sessions.

The waitlist for the lower cost spectrum of this scale is currently only open to past clients.

About Me

My name is Hal (They/Them/Theirs). I am a non-binary disabled settler based out of so-called British Columbia. I hold a Master in Social Work from the University of British Columbia and have been working in the mental health field for over fourteen years in settings including: crisis counselling drop-ins, queer and trans counselling and program development, non-profits, healthcare settings, and prison justice and reintegration support.

I have spent the past few years working as a counsellor for kids, youth, and adults, facilitating programming for gender diverse young people, and consulting with businesses and organizations on trans inclusivity and disability justice in sports. I am passionate about skating, gardening, getting lost in the wilderness, community care, and acts of resistance - big or small.

I look forward to connecting and seeing if we are a good fit.
